What is rectal cancer?

Rectal cancer forms in the tissues of the rectum, the lower part of the large intestine that stores bodily waste until it’s ready to be eliminated. Cancer happens when malignant or abnormal cells grow in this area and form a tumor. Because of its location in the body, rectal cancer can be easier to find and treat than colon cancer.
